Welcome to The Overlap!

I’m Timo, and this page provides an overview of what I care about. My background in Organizational Sociology (PhD) and eight years in consulting have shaped how I think about people, work, and systems. I regularly share my thoughts on LinkedIn and occasionally on Medium; feel free to follow me there or reach out via DM or email (see below).

At its core, my work is about making sense of complexity and creating meaningful systems that help people do their best work. Three key themes guide my thinking:

  1. How we see and interact with the world - the values, assumptions, and beliefs that shape how we approach work and life.

  2. How we structure organizations for lasting impact - Designing sustainable win-win situations for teams and business.

  3. How we apply technology and innovations to create value - Aligning public cloud, automation, and AI with business and organizational needs.

I’ve taken on various roles throughout my career, starting as a data scientist, moving into cloud engineering, and later working as a product owner and team lead. These experiences have given me a broader perspective on how business, people, and technology intersect to drive meaningful results.

If you’re curious about my perspective, below you’ll find deeper explanations and a list of books that have influenced my thinking the most.

Looking forward to connecting!

Collaboration & System Thinking

My approach to work (and life) is anchored in collaboration and system thinking. When interactions are grounded in respect, nearly every situation holds the potential for a win-win outcome. By embracing a systems perspective, we can uncover the broader context, address root causes, and harness feedback loops to enhance these outcomes. In a world that often equates busyness with success, I remain convinced that focusing on doing fewer things exceptionally well is the true path to meaningful, sustainable impact.

Transparency & Teamwork

In my business roles, I emphasize clear communication and collective improvement. I've been a project manager, product owner, and team lead throughout my consulting career, consistently prioritizing transparent collaboration and effective feedback loops. By balancing responsibility for outcomes with a steadfast commitment to team development, I strive to foster a culture that values practical progress and creates space for systemic improvements.

Technology Focus

I began my journey in consulting with Data Science and Machine Learning, drawing on my background in statistics. Over time, I shifted my focus to the Public Cloud, taking on roles as a Cloud Engineer and Architect for AWS and serving as a Product Owner in projects around GCP and Azure. Additionally, my interest in operations and security has grown, as I have seen how much of an impact they have on sustainable solutions. Ultimately, I measure technology by the value it delivers.
